Hello, I’m Coach WP!
Before diving into what this blog is all about, I’d like to share a bit about my background.
Prior to studying Fitness and Health Promotion at Centennial College in Canada, I had already been working as a Personal Trainer / Coach in Hong Kong for quite some time. Moving from Hong Kong to Toronto / Markham to continue my coaching career, people often ask me: what’s the biggest difference?
Beyond the shift in environment and culture, the most direct change was my clientele—transitioning from coaching Cantonese-speaking clients in Hong Kong to communicating 100% in English with a diverse community! While this brought new challenges, it also pushed me to refine my movement analysis, coaching cues, and communication skills to be far more precise.
I created trainwithwp.ca not only to reflect on and organize my coaching experiences, but also to build an authentic, objective, and practical knowledge base for fitness and wellness.
Here, I’ll mainly focus on two key areas:
Client Case Studies & Fitness Myths
Analyzing real-world client transformations in fat loss, muscle building, and posture correction.
Addressing common struggles (e.g., "Why am I not losing weight when I eat so little?" or "How can busy professionals manage their workout schedule?").
Evidence-Based Training & Dieting
No gimmicks or quick fixes—just science-backed, effective training and nutrition strategies designed to fit seamlessly into your daily life.
When I first started writing, it was simply intended as a personal journal. However, as my coaching experience grew, I realized I wanted these articles and resources to genuinely help anyone who might be navigating—or feeling lost on—their fitness journey.
Whether you’re just starting out or looking to track your progress more systematically, I’ve prepared free training tools and guides on the Free Resources page. Feel free to download and use them anytime!

"My living room is too small," "I don't have space for equipment," "I’m afraid of bumping into furniture."
These are the most common concerns I hear when clients consider Home-Based Personal Training. Living in a cozy apartment (a few hundred square feet) makes it easy to assume that effective workouts require a commercial gym or a dedicated home fitness room.
The truth? If you have enough space to lay down a single yoga mat (approx. 6ft x 3ft), you have all the space you need for a complete, high-intensity full-body workout.
🏋️♂️ 3 High-Efficiency Movements for Small SpacesYou don’t need heavy machinery or wide open areas to build strength, burn calories, and improve posture. Here are three mat-space exercises that target major muscle groups without needing extra room:
1. Bodyweight Squat to Reverse Lunge
Target: Quads, Glutes, and Balance.
Why it works: Moving backward instead of forward saves space and places less stress on the knees while maximizing leg activation.
2. Push-Up with Shoulder Taps
Target: Chest, Shoulders, Triceps, and Core Stability.
Why it works: Adding a shoulder tap turns a standard push-up into an anti-rotational core challenge without taking up an extra inch of floor space.
3. Dead Bug to Glute Bridge
Target: Deep Core, Lower Back, and Posterior Chain.
Why it works: Performed entirely lying flat on your mat, this combination strengthens your core and glutes while keeping your spine in a safe, neutral position.
Zero Commute Time: No packing gym bags or waiting in traffic—just roll out your mat and start.
100% Privacy: Focus entirely on your form without worrying about crowd noise or people watching.
Minimalist Equipment: Dumbbells, resistance bands, or even just bodyweight are more than enough to achieve progressive overload.
🤝 Ready to Transform Your Living Room into Your Personal Gym?
Don't let limited space hold back your fitness goals. As a Personal Trainer, I specialize in designing custom, space-efficient Home-Based Training programs tailored to your specific living setup.
When starting a fitness journey, one of the first decisions you face is choosing where and how to train.
While big-box commercial gyms are a popular choice, many busy professionals and families struggle with consistency due to long commutes, crowded floors, and a lack of personalized guidance.
Here is a side-by-side comparison of In-Home / Online Coaching versus Commercial Gyms across four key dimensions to help you decide what fits your lifestyle best.
1. Time Cost & ConvenienceCommercial Gyms: Requires packing a bag, commuting in traffic, finding parking, and waiting for machines during peak hours. A 1-hour workout can easily turn into a 2.5-hour endeavor.
In-Home / Online Coaching: Zero commute time. Your coach comes directly to your door or meets you live on screen. Roll out your mat, train, and instantly get back to your day.
Commercial Gyms: Gym intimidation is real. Crowded spaces, loud noise, and feeling watched can hinder your confidence—especially if you're learning new movements.
In-Home / Online Coaching: 100% private, comfortable, and judgment-free. You can train in your preferred environment with music you like and zero distractions.
Commercial Gyms: Unless you pay top-tier rates for individual gym trainers, you’re left guessing your form, relying on generic workout templates, or wandering from machine to machine.
In-Home / Online Coaching: Dedicated 1-on-1 attention. Every rep, set, and rest period is monitored. Movements are adjusted on the fly to match your body type, joint health, and energy levels.
Commercial Gyms: Low monthly membership fees seem cheap, but unused memberships or ineffective workouts result in wasted money and zero progress.
In-Home / Online Coaching: You are paying for tailored results, structured accountability, and injury prevention. It is an investment in long-term health and sustainable habits.
💡 Coach WP’s Take
